This was the anthem of the Provisional Government of Free India, or Azad Hind from 1943 to 1945. It was largely considered a puppet state of the Japanese Empire, however it was made with the goal of liberating India from the British Empire by Subhas Chandra Bose. This song is considered now an Indian patriotic song, and it bares some lyrical similarities to Jana Gana Mana, India's current anthem.
